What are veneers?
Veneers are thin, custom-made, shells that are attached to the front of the teeth to improve their appearance. These tooth-colored restorations are made from composite resin or porcelain. In most cases, veneers are irreversible because the front of the teeth are shaped to allow room for the veneers.
When are veneers used?
Veneers are used to cover cosmetic flaws in the teeth. For instance, chips, cracks, stains, slightly crooked teeth and gapped teeth can be camouflaged with veneers. Veneers are a less-invasive way to correct these issues than crowns or braces.
How are veneers placed?
A small amount of tooth enamel is removed from the front surfaces of the teeth being prepared to receive veneers. Impressions of the teeth are then taken so that your veneers can be custom made. Once your veneers are ready, the fit will be examined, any necessary adjustments will be made, and they will be bonded to the front of the teeth.
How do I care for my veneers?
It may come as a surprise that veneers do not require any additional care. Simply brush and floss as you would your other teeth and visit Rimrock Dental of Redmond at least twice a year for routine cleaning and exam appointments. You may want to limit staining foods and beverages, like coffee. Also, keep in mind that veneers will eventually need to be replaced by our doctor.
